Pic of Parisian themed piece(s) for Windermere Real estate's upcoming charity auction for Children's Justice Center:
Murals, community and wonders BIG and small
After falling off of my blog's radar for a few months, I have decided it is high time to update and share. Autumn 2013 and spring 2014 look like they are chock full of large scale projects, sprinkled with a few little contests and challenges.
I would like to thank the Vancouver Evergreen School District community, especially at Burnt Bridge Creek Elementary; the support staff, administration, and faculty have been so helpful and supportive of this year's groundbreaking school mural/public art project, and without their help this would be a daunting task. Thank you to Sherwin Williams also for their generous paint donation, and yes, I do plan to Paint the Earth as they say, one bit at a time...
So, the first order of business for my wonderful daughter's school was to paint nine 36' x 48' paintings, each themed with the local geography, history, wildlife and learning focus as content; in order to complement the accompanying wall mural. The wall mural is a 25' x 12' wall facing the school's library area, running through a hallway that all classes access.
The first painting, 'Salmon life Cycle' had content that is consistent with what the fifth grade students learn during a portion of biology in conjunction with visiting local hatcheries in spring. This one is complete, up and hung:
Painting #2 focuses on Southwest Washington's River system, and the factoids and importance of such prominent waterways. I am learning a lot about where I live doing this project, and I hope this has a ripple effect on the kids as well.
The paint is on the wall; here are the beginning photos of my humble work area and future place of finished large scale public art piece based on a 'Journey Through Literacy....'
Last but not least, my entries into the October Windermere Real Estate Children's Justice Center Gala Auction Show 2013, Featuring art from locals intended to be sold to benefit children traumatized or abused, make perpetrators of crimes accountable, and aid the healing process for the children. Great cause!

Autumnal aspirations
Where has summer gone???? Blown away with warm, sun kissed crunchy leaves, taking the scorching heat and promising cooler, windy days full of hot soup, indoor projects and frenetic event planning! Presently awaiting a vendor spot at Crafty Wonderland , Portland, Oregon's premeire winter arts and crafts event, with my art friend extraordinaire, Jennifer Thorenson of Clever Girl Studios...(who actually shares her shop with her friend, Victoria..) Also on the roster for October: the long awaited solo art show hosted by The Brickhouse ...a night of art, music and fun with some new work by yours truly....
Mean while, here are a few ideas and ites I have been toying with, after a recent trip to Whidbey Island to see my family's gorgeous new house on the Puget Sound, I discovered a bunch of great hunks of driftwood and smelled potential amidst the seaweed...This is what I ended up with:
Well, time to go actually get some "work" done in the studio, I will post pics of the Brickhouse show art as soon as it is displayed...don't want to spoil the surprise..:) Meanwhile, I hope to convey warm, windy wishes to anyone who may view these humble pages, and may you have a creative September!
For info on any art/items posted here, please check my Etsy shop : Myriad Studios
or if you happen to be strolling around in downtown Vancouver, WA, stop by The Catalyst

My new fetish for wood includes little drawings on masonite craft panels, and using the muted brown as toned paper; the neutral shade and hard surface lends itself to a variety of techniques, and especially the likes of colored pencil....these small works are portable, great for trade shows, cheap to ship, and I have also made them into prints to fit every budget....

Here's a few hand decorated journals I have been playing with as well; I fell in love with the idea of decorated journals a ways back and my dear Mom has made me quite a few great ones, so I thought i would try to draw on a few, do a few lino-cut print ones, as well as image transfer decorated ones as well....in the end the image transfers can be expensive mistakes if they misfire, as well as the lino-cut ones, but when they do turn out right they are FABULOUS. :)

Tosca yTeran
This artist is amazing! I really could identify with her perspective and experiences, and the lucid dreams that can influence art. Also, how "to seems to fall away" when you work and explore new subject matter...fabulous artist...

Pencil on Poplar...something for spring
I have been experimenting for awhile with pencil and graphite on different wood grains..trying to get a textured, transparent look yet still appreciate the wood grain is a challenge, as is finding "good wood" but I am really enjoying the challenge...I am goint o produce four "seasons" of ethereal female forms with different flowers in each drawing; this is "Spring." The Calla Lillies really reflect the enlongated, distorted neck of the girl, so I am happy with this one! Prints available soon, (in Myriad Studios Etsy shop found here....)
